Slates Prime Time Grill and Sports Bar in Ponderay, Idaho will be holding a benefit for the Dachshund
Rescue NW, and the Dachshund Club of Spokane on Sunday, October 25th @ 5:00 pm.
We will be having our usual Monday
Night Football Party with KPND Radio on Sunday night instead because of our boycott of Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles.
There’s no better way to extend this boycott then by helping those who cannot speak for themselves, i.e., the dogs destroyed,
tortured and mutilated by this person. While everyone may not support my stance against Mr. Vick, this is a worthwhile event
and we need all the help we can get.
Our original plan was to have the benefit for the local Human Society and
the Panhandle Animal Shelter, but I was contacted last week by Ken and Lona Holm in Spokane and was informed about a fire
at the Dachshund Rescue League and the home of the Dachshund Club of Spokane. This story made me realize that we should extend
the benefit to the region and just not the Sandpoint area.
They had a fire on October 13th which devastated the
home and killed 7 dogs in her rescue. Margo Mossburg and her husband Dennis run the group with Margo as the groups director.
Margo has been suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation, but did not receive any life threatening injuries while trying
to save the 16 dogs and two cats from the home, although they did loose 7 dogs in the fire.

to the articles (was picked up by national news too), and her web site..

The following is a quote from the article in the Spokesman Review..
“The fire
in the garage melted the bars on the dogs’ kennels. Firefighters recovered the remains of the pets from the rubble after
extinguishing the fire.
The Mossburgs considered the lost animals their “retirement dogs” because
they were too old or had physical problems that prevented them from being adopted. “We are a rescue organization, so
they are all special,” Margo Mossburg said.
She has operated a dachshund rescue service for 17 years and
has found homes for 69 dogs this year, surpassing the 59 dogs placed in 2008. The group works with the Spokane Humane Society,
said Carolyn Smelcer, the assistant director of the dachshund organization.
Dachshunds are known as tenacious
and strong-willed and are often given up by pet owners who have trouble with them, Smelcer said. “ “A
lot of these animals would be euthanized if we did not take them,” she said.”
Here is my concern about
having the benefit on Sunday night – Sunday nights are our slowest, even with Sunday Night football on. Everyone who’s
been there all day watching their favorite game(s) has probably gone home and snuggled up on the couch to watch the evening
game. So I’m not convinced having Sunday night football parties is a good idea, but we will do this one with hopes that
we can get some people out for the event, support a great cause and we need your help!
We’re asking everyone
who comes, donate at least $5.00 or more towards the rescue league, or if they prefer they can donate to the local shelter.
In a message from Margo the rescue leagues needs cash right now, not food or other types of donations to get their home rebuilt.
Margo cannot make it that evening, as she is still having issues with the smoke inhalation and there is another
event during the day in Spokane.
