For admission prices and information, event schedule and a discount coupon for Pet Fest please see their web site: http://www.spokanepetfest.com  We only run our dog races at their event so please ask them or see their huge web site if you have Pet Fest questions.

Let's see some low riders fly fast and very funny.  Yelling is encouraged for your favorites.  And thanks in advance for coming to support our dog rescue efforts.

How do the races work or what are the rules?  These are my simple rules for my fundraising event each year.

1. You will need two people, one to hold on one end of the demo ring at Pet Fest and one to catch.  If you do not have a second person let us know and we will call for volunters from the audience.

2. The people do not run with the dogs from one end to the other. The fun part is to see which dogs run and which visit with their dog buddies instead of running.

3. We also run in heats so watch a heat or two and then enter your dog if you are new to our races.

4. The winners of the heats stick around for the final run off.  Then one that crosses the finish line first wins.

5. We do ask that you do not throw your dogs to start the races as it is better for them and you as they do run a lot faster when their feet stay on the ground. But no one will be disqualified if dogs are helped at the start of the races especially in the heat of the moment.

6. No throwing balls or toys as the dogs have to run on their own please.  You can use laser lights.

7. All dogs must be on leash until they run please for safety sake. Please pick up after your own dogs and use desginated areas out side for making dog messes then pick that up as well.  Thanks in advance for bringing your own supplies to clean up after your pets.

8. Any dogs that leave early will be asked to run a different race or disqualified at my discretion.  Never had a problem yet with this one, but just in case.

9. Purebred wiener dogs race only please.  We tried the part-bred racing for a few years and it was not supported so we went back to purebreds only.  Part-breds are allowed in the dog club so come have some wiener fun with us once a month.

10. One winner can only win for three years in a row and then they will be retired to the Wiener Hall of Fame like Baron who won this race from 2003, 2004 and 2005.  Sevyn has won in 2006 and 2007.  Will Sevyn the Wonder Dog win again or will Oscar who has been second three years in a row now?  Come see the wieners fly and root for your favorites please.

11. I am the final judge on how the races are run and who wins.  Why?  I am standing right there to be the judge so if you have questions or concerns talk to me only and not the Pet Folks as this is my event, not theirs.  I am the one in the middle of the race with the microphone in hand.  I started these races here in town and those are only rules for this event-the posted rules here.  My decision is final and Pet Fest management will not be able to change an event that we run each year so talk to me ONLY if you have concerns.  Thanks.

12. This is a fun day and let's keep this light and a good time please. Please remember this is a fundraiser and promotions for a dog rescue not the Kentucky Derby where millions are at stake.

13. There is a cost to get into Pet Fest for you and your dogs.  Please see their site at  http://www.spokanepetfest.com for costs and then there is a $5 charge per dog too to benefit Dachshund Rescue NW.

14. This is our major fundraiser for us each year, and winners receive some nice trophies.  All participants also receive a participant packet with dog bones each year too so be sure to grab yours as you leave the demo ring after you run the races.  In 2008 we still have the cute "I raced my wiener at Pet Fest" car sticker if you want one too.

15. Please preregister: We do ask you preregister for this event before running either at our booth at the event and paying your entry fee if you are not a Dachshund Club of Spokane member.  All Dachshund Club of Spokane members races for free with their $20 a year membership per family.  You can enter online for our dog club and see our yearly events on this web site.  Thanks.

16. How do we train our dogs to run?  We start slow and small distances with two people and if they run for a ball, steak or sqeaky toy then we use positive reinforcement.  If they come then we give them a treat.  If they run faster then we get more happy and excited and more treats and so on.  You will need to work your dog a few days so they get the game so they will run well. Even if you do not have time to train your dog please come join us as these races are so funny to watch.  I laugh way too much for the day.

17. Please do not bring puppies too young to have their shots yet.  A puppy is too young at less than 16 weeks and without all four of their puppy shots or you could be exposing them to parvo, influenza and other horrible puppy diseases they could get in a public venue.  Just leave your puppies home please as the crowds are too noisy and too much for the younger ones less than 6 months old.  There is a rule at Pet Fest too no animals under 6 months of age.

If you do not run your dog and just come to watch then your $5 donation or more is always sincerely appreciated to support our mission of rescuing homeless wieners.

Thanks,
