DOGS: TWO DOGS IN WAGON NEAR GIRLS AND MURPHY ON FLOOR

updated 2/27/05

We had a booth for Dachshund Rescue NW (DRNW)and Dachshund Club of Spokane (DCS) at Pet Fest at the Spokane fairgrounds on May 22, 2004.  What fun!  The event had over 3,300 people and adopted out 73 pets during the event.  (Wow!)  Many of those people were in front of our booth all day long.  We were swamped and the wieners were a huge hit again.

DRNW adopted out a dog, Baron, at Pet Fest.  He is on a test drive and we do a home visit today to see how he is doing.   But we still have two sisters who need a home, but we made a lot of good contacts for the day.  We know we will be able to find the girls a home soon.  Because of all the advertising about the wiener dog races on TV and newspaper, etc., we also adopted out three more dogs needing homes before the event itself.  Thank you!

DCS members dropped by the booth to chat and then hung around to either watch or run in the races.  During the wiener dog races DCS had 40 dogs running at this first time event for us.  It was a blast and we had a returning champion!  (See the race winner details below.)

Because Cunningham Studio was there taking photos for Pet Fest we decided that we were very swamped running the races and speaking to many people wanting details about the club and dogs for rescue so we did not get a lot of personal photos during the event.

Good news!  Animal Planet took some photos of wieners running and adoptable rescue wiener dogs being pulled in the rescue's wagon for possible promo commercial on that channel.  If they decide to use the footage of the weiners and Pet Fest stay tuned this Fall for several months.  Maybe your dog will be featured on cable or satellite TV.

A LONG HAIRED DAPPLE MINI MALE PUPPY - Run next year!

Taking home to champion trophy:  Baron and Carolyn S.
Well, Baron is now the reigning champion again.  (Thank goodness or we would never hear the end of that until the next race!)  That lean dog can fly!  (He runs for hot dogs = Carol's secret weapon.)  Baron is a small black and tan standard (large mini?).  He demonstrated his skills in obediance for an adoring audience at the DRNW/DCS of Spokane booth during the event and then went on later to win the wiener dog races too.  That cute dog also wears the goofiest costumes for his mom, Carol, and wins those contests too.  (Thank you Carol and Baron for volunteering in the club booth at the event and showing folks how much fun wieners can be.)

2nd Place Ribbon:  Chloe & Katie D.
This was their first race at this event and they did very well.  "We had an excellent time and we would love to do it again.  I was quite surprised how fast she ran.  We look forward to doing it again next year and we are certain we will."

3rd Place Ribbon: Loki and Willene W.
"Loki is fours years old and this is her second race.  She's really pleased to have done so well.  Loki is named for the Horse God of mischief and destruction.  She's a very sweet girl who loves everyone, especially her grandma and her cousin."

Thank you to everyone who participated; they all received a participant ribbon for this race.  Your entry fees paid for all the ribbons, the lovely trophy and our club booth during the event.  Your participation in this very fun event is greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned for more details about upcoming dog races.  "Fly, wiener, fly!"

Sincerely,
Margo M., Dachshund Club of Spokane, Director
